Tyler Storm

Tyler Storm, age 57, passed away on October 28th, 2025, in Placitas, NM, while mountain biking. Tyler was born in Scott City, Kansas, to parents Virgil (Buzz) Storm and Sharron Shuler. He was raised in Scott City and attended Scott City Schools. Growing up, Tyler developed a strong work ethic at a very young age, honing his manual and problem-solving skills in his father's machine shop. Upon graduating high school, Tyler served in the United States Air Force. He worked within the Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC), which provides data to monitor nuclear compliance and develop advanced nuclear proliferation monitoring technologies for national security. The technical skills learned at AFTAC enabled Tyler to obtain a seismic analyst role at Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory (ASL). He was employed as a contractor through Bendix/Allied Signal and Honeywell. As time went on, Tyler was considered such a valued employee, he was offered a supervisory federal civil service position with ASL. He worked at ASL for 35 years on seismic data quality control and has likely looked at more seismic data than any single individual in the world. Tyler's work required him to travel to places around the world for the installation and maintenance of seismic stations. He traveled to Antarctica, China, South America, and most recently, the most northern town in Norway - Svalbard. He met his future wife, Elena, while she was also employed at ASL.

Tyler was a remarkably good man, husband, father, son, brother, mentor, and best friend. Loving, gregarious, artistic, competitive, and countless other things to so many people. Tyler had many talents, skills, and interests that included cooking, tiling, home remodeling, shooting, bow hunting, country western dancing, stained glass, tennis, exercising, golf, just to name a few.

Tyler was the consummate outdoorsman. Some of his favorite activities included NM big game hunts, which he participated in every year he could draw for a particular species. If he did not draw a license for his own hunt, he would always accompany his friends to support a successful hunt.

Tyler participated in many winter snowboarding trips with his family to various ski resorts in the area. He was also an avid hiker and mountain biker. Tyler was the life of the party (often instigating the party), made strong friendships, and brought others together who will now be life-long friends.

Tyler is predeceased by his father, Buzz, and is survived by his wife of 27 years, Elena, sons Jake (spouse Tabitha) and Eston (Naomi). He is also survived by his mother Sharron Brittan (Don) of Shreveport, LA and sister Kimberly Smith of Scott City, KS plus numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 7th at 2:00 pm at French Funerals - Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Road NW, Albuquerque.
