Tony Cecil Hernandez, 81 of Albuquerque, NM went to be with our Lord on Saturday, July, 4 2020 at his home after a lengthy illness.
Tony was born Tuesday, November, 22 1938 to Ignacio and Carmen Hernandez in Deerfield, KS. He graduated from Lakin High School in 1957. He spent three years in the U.S. Army in the early 60’s where he was stationed in Germany. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to Kansas where he worked as a roofer before moving to Colorado to begin his career with the Santa Fe /BNSF Railroad, where he worked for 30 years until he retired in January of 2004.
Tony was a very outgoing person: he loved to play golf, travel, and drink coffee with his friends and talk railroad. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Tony is survived by his sister, Carmen Cook (Martin) of Cheyenne, WY; bother, Egnacio Hernandez (Debbie) Pueblo, CO; sister, Carol Rairigh (Harold) of Cheyenne. WY; his two children, Tony Hernandez Jr. and wife, Joanna of Albuquerque, and Tara Caye Hernandez of Lincoln, NE; three step-daughters, Jeanette Nelson of Atlanta, GA, Diane Dirks (Darrel) of Leoti, KS, Donna Lundquist (Scott) of Rio Rancho, NM; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a lot of great friends.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Ignacio and Carmen; and two sisters, Geneva and Maryann.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a Private Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, July 16, 2020 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Please click on the Live Video Streaming Link below to view the celebration. Tony will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
