Tommy Dean Tays

A tribute to Tommy D. Tays "Tom" (1936-2026).

Tom passed away on April 10, 2026 at age 90 at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He joined the New Mexico National Guard after graduating high school in Roswell, New Mexico in 1954 as Corporal Tays and retired in 1989 as Colonel Tays. From 1983 to 1989, he was Chief of Staff.

He built a life defined by grit, loyalty and unwavering devotion.

He was a husband, father, soldier, athlete and storyteller. He lived a great life, and he leaves a family who will carry his spirit forward with pride, laughter, and love.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Micca; his three children, Kathleen Allen, Timothy Tay, and Thomas Tays; and a clan of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who exist and laugh loudly because Tom did.
