Timothy Hall

October 31, 1946 — June 22, 2025

Albuquerque

We are saddened to announce the passing of our brother and friend, Tim Hall, on June 22, 2025, after a short illness. Tim engaged life with energy, fun, and connection with many people in his 78 years. He was born October 31, 1946, in Morenci, Arizona to Reverend Jim W. Hall and Ruth Clark Hall. The family moved shortly after his birth to Hobbs, New Mexico where he attended the first six grades of school. In 1961, his dad accepted the call to be the Executive Director of Ghost Ranch, an adult educational center operated by the Presbyterian Church, located in the remote and beautiful mountains of northern New Mexico. Tim entered the tenth grade there, traveling forty miles one way to attend school near Espanola. He was often lonely and felt isolated living that far from school and it was difficult to make friends. His college education began at the University of Tulsa and was completed at the University of New Mexico with degrees in computer science and business. He worked as a social worker in Albuquerque, then joined the Marine Reserves in 1969. The time in the Marines brought confidence and strong sense of emotional and physical endurance. He joined the FAA as an air traffic controller a year later, where he worked for three years. He felt great pride in that job, as he was responsible for up to twenty-five commercial and military aircraft and their passengers in his sector at any one time. However, the stressful job took a health toll on Tim, and he left to get a master’s degree in computer science at Western New Mexico University in Silver City, New Mexico. Upon completion he moved to Galveston, Texas to work in Cancer Research during 1979 and 1980. Tim traveled for 9 months in Australia (where he had immigration status) and New Zealand. He returned to the United States and then entered what was to be the most rewarding career of his life as a teacher for elementary and junior high students of immigrant farm workers in Delano and Atascadero, California. He loved working with these young people, and they loved him. After 16 years he left teaching and returned to New Mexico where he invested in commercial real estate until his passing.

Animals always had a special place for Tim, beginning with his pet white rat at 11. After sad days in high school, he would go out to the corral and quietly sit bareback on a gentle horse his family owned, finding communion and calm. For most of his adult life he adopted whatever stray, small dogs he might come across, caring for many throughout his life. He referred to his dogs as his children and babies, treating them accordingly, providing healthy food, sleeping arrangements, medical care, and all the household comforts.

He passed away peacefully in Albuquerque on June 22, 2025. He is survived by his brothers, Jim Hall (Janet) and Jon Hall (Jan Sterk), nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews, as well as girlfriend Carla Chalk. A service of celebration will take place at Citizen’s Church Central Campus in Albuquerque on August 14 at 1 PM. Memorials may be given in memory of Tim Hall to Ghost Ranch Conference Center in Abiquiu, New Mexico.

Please share memories of Tim and messages of condolence with his family in the guestbook below.
