Listen to Obituary

Theresa Ramirez, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother and great-grandmother, and the steadfast heart of her family, passed away peacefully at the age of 80, surrounded by family and friends. A lifelong resident of Albuquerque, she was raised there and built a life defined by family, faith, service, and quiet strength.

Theresa grew up in a large, close-knit family and was one of many siblings who shaped her strong sense of loyalty, responsibility, and care for others from an early age. Growing up, family was everything, and those early bonds remained central throughout her life. Her deep bond with her siblings was enriched by laughter, humor, and a genuine enjoyment of one another's company.

On February 1, 1964, Theresa married the love of her life, Larry Ramirez. Their marriage of 61 years stood as a testament to enduring love, loyalty, and mutual respect. Theresa was the steady center of Larry's life-the rock upon which their family was built. She often said she would never take away his love for music and was always supportive of his passion, encouraging him and standing proudly beside him as he pursued what brought him joy.

Theresa's home was the heart of her family-a true revolving door where children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, friends, and neighbors were always welcome. She held her family together with patience, love, and an unwavering presence. As the matriarch of the family, she was the quiet force that connected generations.

She took great pride in her home and loved updating, reorganizing, and refreshing it-often enlisting Larry to do the hard work. Her home was a reflection of her heart, always warm and welcoming, especially during Christmas, her favorite time of year. She delighted in gathering her family together, welcoming numerous guests, and carrying on cherished traditions, including placing luminarias along the front of their home on Christmas Eve, filling the night with light as loved ones gathered inside to celebrate. Theresa was also widely known for her cooking, which brought comfort and togetherness to family gatherings. From Thanksgiving turkey to enchiladas, green chile stew, and her beloved & famous biscochitos, her meals were expressions of love and created memories that will be treasured.

Theresa was a woman of deep and abiding faith and remained devoted to the Catholic Church throughout her life. She was an active and faithful member of San Felipe de Neri, where she generously volunteered for various committees and helped with the annual Rosary Rally.

Theresa spent much of her working life as a waitress, a profession that reflected her gracious spirit, strong work ethic, and genuine care for others. In every role she assumed, she placed the needs of others before her own and extended kindness freely, always greeting those around her with a warm heart and contagious laughter that brought comfort and joy.

Theresa embodied strength in both her actions and her spirit. She faced ongoing health challenges with remarkable grace and resilience, often enduring pain quietly while continuing to care for and support those around her. Even in difficult moments, she remained strong for her family, offering reassurance, stability, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Virginia Hernandez, and her brothers Dan, Sal, Albert, and Art Hernandez.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Larry Ramirez; her children, son Christopher and his wife Irene, daughter Monica and her husband Bob Gromek, daughter Jennifer Ramirez, and son Vincent and his wife Morgan; her grandchildren Ryan and his wife Margaret Gromek, Conor Gromek, Ayden Ramirez, Jack Ramirez, and Abbey Ramirez; her great-granddaughter, Scarlett Gromek; and her siblings Michael and his wife Anna Hernandez, Ross and his wife Deborah Hernandez, Martin Hernandez and Filo Martinez, Cathy and her husband Mike Mirabal, Andrew Hernandez and husband Michael Dorn.
