Thelma Martinez

Thelma Martinez, a loving mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 5, 2023 on the Feast of St. Faustina. She was preceded in death by her angel of a husband, Faustin Martinez; her precious son, Mark Martinez; her amazing parents, Isaac and Margaret Alvarado; and all her siblings and in-laws.

She is survived by daughter, Shirley (John); granddaughters, Stefani (Chris) and Chelsi (TJ); six precious great-grandchildren, Maggie, Haedyn, Lily, LeAnna, William, Ashlin, Christopher, and Zachary; special nieces, Margaret, Dolores, and JoAnn; among several other wonderful grand- nieces and grandnephews; and great-great-grandchildren, all whom she cherished; as well as many others who knew and loved her.

She was a wonderful homemaker, who helped raise her two grandchildren and also was a volunteer in various capacities, including work at Catholic churches, the political arena, and Albuquerque Public Schools.

A Memorial Celebration of her Life will take place at the Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11509 Indian School Rd. NE, Albuquerque, NM, on Friday October 13, 2023, which would have been her 90th birthday, beginning with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m., Mass at 10:00 a.m., followed by entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM, at 11:30 a.m. and a reception to be announced. Presiders are Father Rick and Deacon Bill.

We are honored to have Jeremy Jamieson, Jimy Byrd, Brian Alvarado, Bruce Alvarado, Chris Segura, Christopher Segura, Mike Drye and Lynn Torres as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers are William Saccoccia, Jason Ulibarri, Zachary Segura, Sean Yorty, Eric Yorty, and John Medina.

Our great sadness at her loss in our lives cannot be expressed enough, while we are also happy for her eternal place with our Lord.

Special thanks to all who helped with her needs in this trying time, including but not limited to, the EMTs, ambulance workers, Lovelace Hospital doctors, nurses, religious, hospice bed provider and hospice nurses, relatives, friends, and neighbors, too numerous to mention by name.
