Terrie Black Flores Baca

Terrie Black Flores Baca, age 92, found peace on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, after a full and productive life filled with family, love and service to her community.

Born in Albuquerque to Joseph Treviňo Black and Teresita Baca Black, she was a graduate of Albuquerque High School and attended secretarial school in San Francisco.

Terrie had a successful career with the New Mexico Labor Commission where she served the public with her vast knowledge and expertise and warm personal connection to everyone she met. Terrie was a community leader and mentor to many women. In 1990 she was appointed to the Federal Committee of Apprenticeship as the first New Mexican to serve on that committee. In 1992 she received the Governor's Award for Outstanding Women. She played a pivotal role as a liaison between state legislators and the Attorney General in drafting new labor laws. Terrie was also politically interested and involved at many levels of government.

Terrie was preceded in death by Arnulfo Flores, her husband of 24 years; her cherished daughter, Rose Gurule and precious granddaughter, Cocoa Gurule. She is survived by her children, Ramon Flores; son-in-law, Ranch Gurule, Beverly Flores, Teresa Flores Samaniego and husband Ernesto, Tony Flores and wife Keiko, and Rebecca Flores and husband Terry Foutz; six grandchildren: Emily Zepeda and husband Felipe, Lynette Gurule, Tess Cuvi and husband Alfredo, Rey Samaniego, Jake Samaniego, Elyse Garcia and husband Eddie; eleven great-grandchildren: Gabriela Lovett and husband Gage, Gabriel Flores, Rebekah Flores, Bryana Ward, Aubrye Ward, Dante Gurule, Zachariah Romero, Zoe Gurule, Zatalia Gurule, Carmen Samaniego and Romina Cuvi; and brother, Santiago Black and sister, Frances Carillo.

A Rosary will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023, 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m., at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church, 2005 North Plaza NW - Albuquerque, NM.
