Tasia Young

Tasia Young 1934-2026: A Wonderful Life

Tasia Young passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Tasia grew up in Thorp, Wisconsin. She met first husband Richard Young at the University of Iowa. They raised five children and lived in several Western cities. Tasia was active in the League of Women Voters, and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). In 1970, the family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Tasia got involved in the women's rights movement. She served as the Executive Director of the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women from 1975 to 1985.

Tasia taught at multiple colleges and universities. She worked for the NM Association of Counties and as a tax analyst for the NM Legislature. Tasia began a new career as an author at age 85. Her book "The Changemakers - How New Mexico Became the Land of Women's Equality" was released on July 21, 2026 by UNM Press.

Tasia was a lifelong learner. She loved art, music and literature. She was a voracious reader and her home was filled with books. She enjoyed traveling, and was always planning a new trip.

Tasia is survived by: Husband Robert Knox, sister Sue Tennessen, children Sue Young, Mark Young, Joel Young, Chris Young, Sarah Chandler; daughters-in-law Paula Mikrut, Lisa Ellis, Joanna Ryter; sons-in-law Adam Chandler, Rusty Nelson; grandchildren Sophie Ellis-Young, Rose Chandler, Hugh Chandler; first husband Richard Young, and many dear friends.

A memorial service will be held in the fall.
