Suzanne Walker

May 27, 1935 — January 5, 2024

Suzanne V. Walker passed away on January 5, 2024 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 88 after a wonderful life and brief illness. She is survived by her son Thomas H. (wife, Kerry) Walker of Eagle River, Wisconsin, daughter Mary K. Walker (partner Richard H. Irland) of Sandia Park, New Mexico, and cousins Kathy Braunreiter (husband, Randy) of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, and Dolores Eichman of Waukesha, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Alfred Edward Walker and her parents Howard S. and Viola E. (Bink) Breitwish of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, as well as several cousins.

Sue grew up in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin and attended Downer College in Milwaukee graduating with a B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1957. She worked as an Administrative Secretary at Cumberland Grade School and then Whitefish Bay High School for a total of 29 years. She was an active member of the Wisconsin Education Secretaries Association where she served many roles, including president. She loved bird watching and the outdoors and spent many summers at a family cottage known as Tall Timber in Three Lakes, Wisconsin. Her parents purchased the cottage in 1949, and she enjoyed taking her children there during summer vacations and later sharing it with her friends as an adult. She also ventured beyond the Wisconsin Northwoods to Banff, Alberta to see moose in the wild and walk on glaciers; to Key West, Florida to see Frigate birds and drink margaritas at sunset; and to Hawaii to see active volcanoes and spinner dolphins. She loved all types of crafting projects, but particularly enjoyed quilting and crocheting, hobbies that she shared with both her daughter and daughter-in-law.

She moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico after her retirement to be closer to her daughter and they shared many adventures together, including frequently hiking the Pino Trail, visiting the Grand Canyon, attending Balloon Fiesta, and shopping in Old Town. She loved dogs and cats and was very attached to her West Highland White Terriers, Scooter and Duffy. She gave her children a sense of adventure and independence and never hesitated to support their dreams. She will be dearly missed by her children and all who knew her.

Her children would like to sincerely thank the staff at Advantage Assisted Living and Hospice de La Luz for making her final days comfortable and peaceful. A celebration of her life will be held at FRENCH - Wyoming on Friday, January 19th from 3:00 pm to 6:00pm and all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Suzanne's name to the National Wildlife Federation or your local Animal Humane Society.
