In Loving Memory of Steven E. Carlson

October 9, 1956 - February 27, 2026

Steven E. Carlson, age 69, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and formerly of Chicago, Omaha, Crystal Lake, and Ridgewood, passed away peacefully. A devoted husband, father, and the ultimate Chicago sports fan, Steve leaves behind a legacy of loyalty and laughter. As all who knew him are aware, he loved his puns.

Early Years & The Hope Street Gang

Born in Chicago to Roy and Erin Victoria (Haig) Carlson, Steve spent his youth in Chicago, Illinois, and Ridgewood, New Jersey. He was a proud graduate of Ridgewood High School, where he formed lifelong bonds as a core member of the "Hope Street Gang." These "high school compadres" remained a vital part of his life's story, representing a foundation of friendship that never faded.

Commitment to Family & Education

Steve returned to his Illinois roots after high school, graduating from Northeastern Illinois University. In 1979, he married his first wife, Pamela Sue Hoss Carlson of Desplaines, Illinois.. Steve remained her faithful and devoted spouse until her passing in 1987.

In 1988, Steve found a partner in his second wife, Lisa Moczulewski Carlson of Chicago, Illinois, who survives him. In 2021, they moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico, where Steve spent his retirement years focused on his greatest joy: supporting his family.

A Life in "Chicago Blue"

If you knew Steve, you knew his pulse was set to the rhythm of Chicago sports. He lived for the Bulls, the Blackhawks, and the Bears. But above all, he was a Chicago Cubs fan. The absolute pinnacle of his life as a spectator was witnessing the 2016 World Series victory-a moment of pure, hard-earned magic.

In the words of the classic "A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request" (Steve Goodman, 1981):

"Give me a double header funeral in Wrigley Field, on some sunny weekend day when the winds are blowing out."

Family & Survivors

Steve's memory will be carried on by those he loved most:

• His Wife: Lisa Moczulewski Carlson.

• His Children: Daniel Carlson (45) and Spouse Erica Carlson; Gregory Carlson (43) and Spouse Stephanie Carlson; Anthony (40); and Kirsten Carlson Orth (38) and Spouse Brendon Orth.

• His Sister: Claudia Kral.

• His Grandchildren: Dexter, Charlotte, and William.
