A loved husband, father, brother, uncle and son, Stephen Ernest Amond, age 73, passed away peacefully on June 5th, 2026.
Stephen was born on December 28, 1952 in Norway, Michigan, and raised in Michigan by parents Ernest and Lily Amond. Stephen graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Superior College, earning a Bachelor's of Science degree and then a Master's degree in Therapy in 1978.
In the early 1980s, a young and adventurous Stephen moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. He later settled in Albuquerque, where he found his true calling working for ARCA. Dedicated to helping his clients thrive, he brought energy, warmth, and joy to everyone he met, always joking and sharing his one-a-kind charisma. After more than 30 years of dedicated service, he retired. It is also here he met his wife, Karen Tewawina (of 26 years) whom he would live a full and beautiful life with.
Stephen is survived by his loving wife Karen Lynn Amond (Tewawina), daughter Janelle Lisinski, son-in-law James Lisinski, granddaughter Mythra Lisinski, brother John Amond, sisters Jeanette Micksch, Beth Gedvick, Alice Amond, and Andrea Pociask. Preceded in death are parents Ernest and Lily Amond, sister Barbara Amond, and daughter Heather Tewawina.
Stephen loved playing tennis. His agility and strategy on the court helped win numerous matches, not only for himself but for his fellow team mates. When he was not on the court, traveling was his other favorite activity. Jet setting all over the world allowed him to spread his joyful, personality to others. Able to visit Australia, England, Scotland, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, Ireland, Cape Horn, New Zealand ... well, you get the idea. If traveling wasn't enough excitement, learning scuba diving was just another hobby to add to the resume. He became certified at Blue Hole, NM and continued to use this skill on his many cruises. One time of the year he made sure he was in town was for the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. The beautiful colors, fun shapes and wide array of hot-air balloons made him joyful. Gardening roses was not the only plant he was able to cultivate. He grew juicy tomato's, tasty squash, hot green chile, and flavorful corn. Not only did he feed his family, he fed the always hungry neighborhood birds. Always part of the house sitter instructions was to make sure the birds had seed. As a Green Bay Packers fan he was always cheering and routing for the team of his youth. While we all love an exciting day, relaxing is a must. Puzzles were a way for Steve to relax and challenge his mind. A thousand plus piece puzzle was no match for him.
Memorial services will be held Friday 19th, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the FRENCH - Westside Chapel, at 9300 Golf Course Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114. The reception to follow at same location. Steve was known for his love of Hawaiian shirts, so in his honor, wear yours if you have one.
