It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Sidney “Buddy” Mills.
Sidney Leroy Mills (Wapaha-Luta) was born on December 5, 1925, to Sidney Thomas Mills and Grace Louise (Allman) Mills in Porcupine, South Dakota.
Sidney grew up on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and was a proud member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. He entered into active service for the United States Navy in 1943 during World War II and was Honorably Discharged in 1947 with the rank of Boatswains Mate First Class. He spent 20 years with Private Industry in Denver, Colorado.

He joined the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 32 years and retired in 1994 as the Regional Director for the Southwest Region in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was a distinguished man and an amazing leader in his professional and personal life. He loved his family, his community, and his Denver Broncos. He was our hero, and he went into overtime with everyone. His time is now done.
He is survived by Kay Hayes his lifetime friend; two sons, Chuck (Sharon) Mills and Tom (Debbie) Mills; brothers, Walter Mills, Billy (Patricia) Mills, Chet (Ruth) Mills; sister, Thelma Brafford; three grandchildren, Sean (Darla) Mills, Chukk (Chani) Mills, Laura (John) Train; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Corrine Mills; parents Sidney and Grace Mills; siblings, Estelle Mills, Frederick Mills, Emma Mills, Margie Moran, Ramona Bedingfeld, Norma Rave and Beverly Mills.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
