Shirley Mae Fowler left this life to be with her Lord and Savior on March 4, 2026 (the 34th anniversary of her son Ricky Stephen Willis' death).
Also preceding her in death was her husband Jack Fowler who went to his eternal glory on October 8,1996.
Her life will live on in her children: son, Fred M. Willis, and daughters, Cindy E. Brueggemann and husband Mark, Jackie R. Hanson and husband Robert, and daughter-in-law, Doris D. Willis. Shirley's proudest achievements include her many grandchildren: Christopher M. Slater, Connie M. Rinehart, Andrew P. Slater, Joshua Willis, Amanda Willis, Sarah Willis-Linge, Stephaney Ramirez, Amy R. Leighton, Mary D. Ercoli, Aaron B.Willis, Hollie B. Palmer, Michael A. Barela, Christian N. Barela, Adam J. Hanson and Seth R. Hanson. This brood furnished her with 44 great-grandchildren and 7 great-. greats. She remembered each and every one by name.
She was a life-long musician who started playing accordion at age 9. She practiced so religiously that her father often banished her to the chicken coop for one of her long practice sessions. She took accordion lessons for 6 months and then went on to teach accordion in her young adult life. After having taught herself piano, in her teenage years, she traveled around New Mexico with an evangelist as her worship leader.
In 1964, she met her husband, Jack, who encouraged her to join him in a gospel quartet. Once again she toured New Mexico playing and singing at Christian events. Shirley and her family started attending Western Heights Assembly of God in the 1970's where she was pianist and music director for many years. They once again established a wonderful quartet, The Evangels. This foursome sang together for many years, blessing many. Along with her musical talents, Shirley took up painting later in life and she left us with many beautiful pieces of art to remember her by. She was an avid reader, and without a doubt her favorite book was her Bible that was always close at hand. When asked if she ever got bored, her jaw would drop and she would emphatically state "how could I possibly get bored when I have so much I love to do?" She led an amazingly full life in her 90 years, and there is much more that could be said. She will be sorely missed and forever remembered as a loving Mom and as her grands would say "The best Grandmother ever".
