Sherryl Meta
Hilliard
November 6, 1943 – May 14, 2026
Sherryl's spirit returned to the creator, suddenly and unexpectedly, at 10:04 pm, at home in her favorite chair, on May 14, 2026. She came into this world on November 6, 1943, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings Montana.
She was the daughter of Galen M. Naylor and Betty M. (Reynolds) Naylor, both preceding her in death. She was also preceded in death by her only sibling, G. Scott Naylor. She was very proud of her tough Western heritage, descending from original Montana homesteaders.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Keith C. Hilliard (m. 1990), wonderful daughter, Susan M. Moyers, and beloved granddaughter, Sarah L. Porter. She was the appreciative step-mother of two daughters, and a grandmother through them, also.
She attended Lockwood Elementary School, on the outskirts of Billings. She attended High School at Great Falls High School
Sherryl was the first person in her family to graduate from college. She graduated from Eastern Montana College in Billings, Montana, with high honors. She had spent some time at Rocky Mountain College in Billings and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, as well.
She went on to teach for nearly 30 years in public, BIA and Catholic Schools in Montana and New Mexico. She taught at Busby, Lame Deer, St. Labre Mission, all in Montana, and in New Mexico, at Wingate, and as a substitute in Albuquerque and Bernalillo.
Her last teaching assignment was at Santo Domingo Pueblo where she taught for 20 years. She retired at age 57, and as time went on, she spent her time happily cross-stiching, reading, quilting, and visiting with friends and family.
She had played the violin as a child and picked up the guitar in adulthood. At one time she had been involved with various Lutheran Churches in Albuquerque and volunteered with various projects.
Her favorite Bible story was that of the Woman at the Well from John 4:
Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
She was married first to Edward N. Moyers in 1963, who survives her.
