With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Sherrie Lee Burk on May 20, 2026. Sherrie was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, wife, and friend whose kindness, strength, and generous spirit touched everyone who knew her.
Sherrie was born on December 23, 1947, in Denver, Colorado, to Charles Saunders and Harriett Robinson. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico, where she grew up with her sisters, Katherine "Kitty" Headdy and Dorothy "Dottie" Austin. She graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1965 and later attended New Mexico State University.
In 1968, she married Ron Lucero and welcomed her children Scott and Lori. Later, she shared her life with Lynn Link, and together they welcomed her youngest son, Casey. Sherrie built a successful career in mortgage banking and entrepreneurship, opening both the Cattleman's Exchange restaurants in Albuquerque and, after moving to Ruidoso in 1992, opened Ruidoso Mortgage.
In Ruidoso, she met the love of her life, Wayland Burk, whom she affectionately called "My Love." They married on Valentine's Day in 2003 and shared 22 loving years together until his passing in October 2025.
Sherrie loved gardening, interior design, following the stock market, and hosting weekly Bible studies as a devoted Christian. Her greatest joy, however, was her grandchildren. She loved supporting them, celebrating their accomplishments, and staying closely involved in their lives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayland Burk; her sister Kitty; and her dear friend Jean Harlow.
Sherrie is survived by her children Scott Lucero and partner Mary Cordray; Lori and husband Marshall Saiz and their sons Gabe, Ethan, and Alex; and Casey and wife Tiffany Link and their daughters Hazel and Violet. She is also survived by her sister Dottie Austin.
She will always be remembered for her generosity, warmth, unwavering faith, and deep love for her family.
A viewing will be held at FRENCH-Wyoming in Albuquerque on June 2, 2026, at 7:30 a.m., followed by burial at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 9:45 a.m., where she will rest beside her beloved Wayland.
