Shannon Darrel Roberts, of Los Lunas, New Mexico, was welcomed into the arms of Our Lord on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Shannon was born on March 8, 1938 to Richard Shannon Roberts and Etta Mae (Clairy) Roberts in Stoutsville, Missouri. He is survived by his wife, Carole Sue (Kirkland) Roberts, of the home, daughter, Maile Butler and husband Rhett, of Albuquerque, NM, daughter, Leanna Dunsworth and husband, Jerry, of Oviedo, FL and son, Zane Roberts and wife, Stacy of Colorado Springs, CO. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Whitney Brock and husband, Christopher, Aneesa Pace and husband, Patrick, RJ Butler and wife, Claire, Bryson Dunsworth, Breckin Dunsworth, David Beck, Jenny Beck, Oliver Pace, Quentin Pace, Paisley Brock and Pistol Brock. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law Carole Jones Roberts (his brother's wife), Kristie James and husband, John, Rita Sims, brother-in-law, Tom Kirkland and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Shannon was predeceased by his father, mother, brother, Gerald (Doug) Roberts, sister, Beverly Sue Erdle and many, many friends from across the U.S. and the world.
Shannon graduated from Paris High School, Paris, Missouri in 1956 and worked as a farmhand until enlisting in the United States Air Force in January, 1957. He served in Hawaii, Southeast Asia, England and other various bases in the US as an aircraft electrician until his retirement as a Senior Master Sergeant in 1980. He met Carole while stationed at Kirtland AFB and they were married at the University Church of Christ in Albuquerque on November, 21, 1963. While living in Hawaii, he and Carole became certified SCUBA divers and enjoyed many years of diving together.
After retiring from military service, Shannon worked for the Veteran's Administration Hospital as the Electrical Shop Chief, which he retired from in March, 2003. In retirement, Shannon volunteered his time as a tax preparer through AAHP, served on the board for the Christian Student Center for many years, travelled extensively with his wife, with extended family accompanying at times, and assisting as the family handyman. He enjoyed reading, taking the grandkids camping and on cruises, fishing, going to Isotopes games and just spending time with family and friends. Shannon was a member of the Mountainside Church of Christ for over 45 years.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026 - Mountainside Church of Christ at 10:30am with a funeral service to follow at 11:00am. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 - Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:00pm.
