Sara Torres Liston, our beloved wife and mother was called home on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. She peacefully passed away, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and kindness. She will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, and all those whose lives she touched. While her physical presence may be gone, her spirit will continue to live on through the memories of her unwavering faith and her boundless love.
Sara was born on Wednesday, August 26, 1931, in the close-knit community of Alamogordo, New Mexico. Her loving parents, Frank and Isabel Torres raised her along with her sisters, Isabel, Gloria and Rachel, with strong moral values and a deep sense of faith. From a young age, religion played a significant role in her life, shaping her character and guiding her actions.
Sara attended Alamogordo High School. After graduating, she decided to join the Sisters of Immaculate Heart in Montecito California and became a Novice. She was thankful to be invited to become part of this community. During her time at Immaculate Heart, she proved to be a talented teacher developing techniques that impressed many. After 3 to 4 years of service, she made the difficult decision to leave the novitiate and returned to New Mexico to be with her family.
Sara's faith in God was unwavering. She became a devoted member of her local church, where she actively participated in worship services, volunteered her time for various charitable causes, and found solace in her spiritual community. Her faith provided her with strength, hope, and a moral compass that guided her throughout her life influencing how she approached life's challenges.
In 1957, Sara met the love of her life, Darrell Liston at her work at Holloman AFB in Alamogordo. They fell in love quickly and were married a few years later. They settled in the same small town where she grew up and raised three children, Ana, Diana, and Denise.
As a wife and mother, Sara's love was unconditional. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family, nurturing her children and ensuring they were surrounded by love, support, and the values she held dear. Her love created a place where they could find comfort and guidance. She instilled in them the importance of empathy, respect, and integrity.
Throughout her life, Sara possessed a wide range of talents and hobbies. Sara had a curious mind and an insatiable thirst for knowledge while attending classes at college and throughout her life. She had an undeniable flair making her home beautiful. Her passion for sewing proved to be a creative outlet that was evident in all aspects of her home and family. Additionally, she possessed a green thumb and spent countless hours tending to her beautiful garden, where colorful blooms thrived under her care.
In honor of Sara, let us remember the lessons she taught us, and may her legacy inspire us to live with the same faith, love, and compassion that she exemplified throughout her life. The family would like to thank Hospice of NM and all the caretakers who tirelessly and lovingly cared for Sara during her later years.
Rest in peace Sara, knowing that your love will forever be etched in our hearts.
