Rufe Jackson McDonald, Jr. was born on September 21, 1940 in Raton, NM and died on September 4, 2024 in Albuquerque, NM.
His father was Rufe Jackson McDonald, Sr., deceased. His mother was Helen McDonald, nee Ely, deceased. Both his brothers, Dave and Pete also preceded him in death.
Rufe graduated from Robertson High School in Las Vegas, NM in 1958 and from Highlands University in 1963 with a degree in mathematics. He played baseball at Robertson, Highlands, and for the Las Vegas Merchants. He was a lefty who played first base.
Rufe married Dorothy Sacoman of Santa Fe, NM in 1963. They had two children, Maureen Jett (husband Steve) and Kevin (wife Brooke); one grandson, Vincent McDonald (wife Courtney); and two great-grandsons, Barrett and Nash.
Rufe worked for the NM Department of Transportation, UNM, and set up accounting software for small farms with FIM (Farm Information Machinery). He retired in 1998.
He was a member of Azusa Christian Faith, where he served over 20 years as Deacon and Treasurer. Rufe was involved in prison ministry, marriage ministry, and the homeless ministry.
He will be remembered for his humor, friendliness, and love of Jesus.
A memorial service will be held at Friday, November 8, 2024, 1:00 p.m., at FRENCH – University.
