Ruben Garcia, 77, a cherished Father, Son, and friend, was called to his eternal resting place on December 29, 2024. Born on April 13, 1947, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Paul and Bessie Garcia, Ruben lived a life of dedication, service, and love. Ruben was an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Isleta. He was preceded in death by sisters, Debbie and Francella; and brother, Vincent. He is survived by his son, Eric Garcia; his daughter-in-law; Kasi Garcia; and their three children, Teddee, Vanessa, and Ezabella. Ruben is also survived by his lifetime friend/partner, Cathy Trei; his brothers, David, Lenny (and wife, Mary), and Dikki; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Ruben served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970. His devotion to service continued throughout his career as a Sheriff's Deputy with the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department, where he worked for over 35 years. After retiring from the Sheriff's Department, Ruben continued to serve the community through his work with the Bernalillo County court system, as well as with the Valencia County Sheriff's Department, and Juvenile Detention Center. He was deeply respected and admired within the law enforcement community.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 13, 2025, at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Josephs Dr. NW, beginning with a viewing at 7:45am. Rosary will begin at 8:15am with Mass to follow at 9:00am. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:30pm. A reception will take place at the American Legion Post 13 located at 1201 Legion Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102 from 3-5 pm. All family and friends are welcome. Food will be provided.
Ruben's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
