RONALD PAUL TYBOR

BORN AUGUST 8th, 1937 in Houston, Texas

DIED SEPTEMBER 6th, 2026 in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Married Sandra K. Firestone on AUGUST 17th, 1963. 63 years happily together.

Ron is survived by his beautiful wife, Sandra (Firestone), despite that she attended Ohio State for a while. He is thankful to this lady. A precious GIFT- He believes she received sainthood within a decade after they married. His two children, favorite son, Blaise Tybor and his wife, Lisa; special daughter and confidant, Deidre De Guio and her husband, Chris; his grandchildren Patrick Tybor and his wife, Maria; Lauren Czajka and her husband, Ethan; Grace McCarthy and her husband, Shaun; Shannon Tybor; Benjamin De Guio; Chase De Guio; Christy De Guio; his sister Clarity Martin and her husband, Heywood; sister-in-law Delphine Tybor; sister-in-law Carol Firestone; many nephews and nieces; life-long friends, dear friends, and numerous students.

Ron was preceded in death by his father, Leon (died when he was 7 months old) and mother, Pauline; stepdad Ed Baron; three brothers, Art Tybor and his wife, Sheila; Norm Tybor and his wife, Alice; Allen Tybor; brother-in-law Terry Firestone.

He graduated from St. Barbara's Grade School (1951). Attended St. Thomas High School (1952) in Houston, Texas for a year then graduated from St. Alphonsus High School (1955) in Dearborn, Michigan. Graduated from St. Joseph's College (1961) on the Rio Grande in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he met Sandra, which is currently St. Pius X High School. He earned a B.S. in Education with a double major in History and Physical Education. Postgraduate work done at the University of Albuquerque and University of New Mexico in History, in Counseling, and MA in Education Administration granted in 1976.

He volunteered for the draft for the U.S. Army (1957). It lasted two years and he feels like he was a misplaced civilian in France. He played for the company baseball, football, and basketball teams. He traveled throughout Europe playing sports for the Army.

He taught and coached in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe for 57 years. The first six years were at Lourdes High School (1961-1966) where the Italian brothers provided a house across from the gym for him and Sandra on South 2nd street, now Joy Junction. The next 51 years were at St. Pius X High School. He worked at the Boys Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He coached Little League at Mile High and Altamont for seven years and the school teams at Our Lady of Annunciation School. He was the Acting Director of the Upward Bound Program at the University of Albuquerque (1966-1983) for 12 out of the 18 years that he was involved with it. A government program that helped underprivileged students to advance their education once they were out of high school. He was blessed to have the availability to spend time before the Blessed Sacrament, but never enough. He was addicted, loved, and relied on the Holy Eucharist. Became a Eucharist Minister 1983 and visited many "birdies" in facilities that were happy to receive Christ. This changed his life and it was found as the MOST important thing that he could do. He was involved for over 32 years in bible study with a group he called his "Holy Huddle" at Sandia Baptist and Faith Lutheran churches.

COACH of SPX Varsity Basketball (1966-1973) and JV basketball (4 years at the same time as Varsity). SPX Varsity Baseball (1968-1971). SPX Golf Coach (1975-1979). SPX Varsity and JV Softball coach (1980-1984). SPX Athletic Director (1968-1971). SPX Intramural Director (1966-2019). SPX School Photographer and Historian (1966-2019).

SPX Apathy Club, SPX Breakfast Club, attending ALL SPX Class reunions (every year for every class), and Slide Shows were a MUST do. Friday night Scary Movie night during the school year in the gym or school cafeteria. "Bring your pillow, lay on the floor, one dollar for entry."

A recipient of various awards and accolades, some were dubious, but he always requested a recount once notified of any honor. A couple were, Coach of the Year in 1971. And "Coach Ron Tybor Day", October 20th, 2018, declared by the Executive Order from the Office of the Mayor of Albuquerque.

The latest bonus to his life was being in communication with hundreds of SPX Alums. They were his adrenalin through life and are invaluable to this day. They are extremely generous people. They are called the "Happy Helpers".

In summation, God, family, photography, educating, listening to Paul Harvey, most "R and B" music from the 50's were joys. He "never" had a job. Everything that he did was a joyful hobby. With his faith, wife, family, friends, former students especially the "Happy Helpers", and a vocation, there was nothing more needed. He liked being politically incorrect. "If I haven't offended you, I'm sorry." Most important lesson to be learned, "Failure is an event, not a person. Don't be afraid to fail." It happened frequently in this life. 

Motto = "Do and be silent." Favorite sayings - When asked, "How are you?" The usual reply, "I'm Happy...But I'll get over it." Another, "God takes care of fools and sparrows, and I don't fly." When asked at a restaurant for his order, he replied, "Huevos Rancheros, red, scrambled, but don't break the yolk." 

"I'm Happy, Blessed, Loved, Forgiven, Redeemed, Reconciled and debt free - except to God." "Everyday is Christmas, and I'm waiting for Easter." He was undeservedly, overly blessed by the Lord. What a beautiful gift to this life. Thank you Lord. Celebrate this life. "I'M OUTTA HERE." 

A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2026, from 6:00pm-8:00pm at French Funerals and Cremations-7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE Albuquerque, NM 87109. The Rosary will be prayed on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 9:30 am, in the St. Pius X Catholic High School Gym. St. Pius X is located at 5301 St. Joseph's Drive NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120. Mass will follow the Rosary at 10:00 am.
