Listen to Obituary

Ronald Joseph Monty, 81, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his home in Tijeras, NM, on April 29, 2026. Ron was born on April 13, 1945, in East Hartford, Conn. He was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Anne Monty and his brother, Harold Monty Jr.

Ron proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971. Following his military service, he built a long and successful career in telecommunications, working for New England Bell and Mountain Bell before retiring from Lumen after 27 years of dedicated work.

A true craftsman, Ron's passion and creativity led him to establish Stained Glass Specialties in Albuquerque for over 40 years. He created stunning stained, carved, and etched glass windows for numerous restaurants, churches and private residences, leaving a permanent mark of beauty across the community.

Ron was a man of many interests and stayed active in the New Mexico Radio Collectors Club for many years. He lived a full life, whether he was: racing Corvettes with the Ed Black's Corvette Club, riding his Harley-Davidson, skiing, golfing, or camping, and most of all Ron loved to cook.

Ron's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Monty; his two sons, Ronald Monty Jr. (wife Carrie) and Jason Monty; and his three grandchildren, Jayse, Jules, and Lena, to whom he was the most caring and proud Poppy.

Ron's memory will be cherished by the many friends and family members, cousins, nephews, and nieces whose lives he touched with his talent and kindness.

Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to share memories and sign the guestbook for Ron.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Lung Association for COPD.
