Ronald Montoya, age 68, a devoted husband, loving father, and dedicated servant to his country, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026.

Born on May 6, 1957, in Albuquerque, Ron lived a life defined by commitment and care. He joined the New Mexico Army National Guard in 1978, serving with distinction for 20 years and achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2. His dedication to service continued into his civilian career at Sandia National Laboratories, where he worked for 17 years before retiring in June 2023 as a Principal Solutions Architect. He was proud of his lifelong dedication and service to his country across both careers.

Ron loved all things tech and had a wide variety of other interests. He loved everything from riding his bike, cooking, and gardening, to enjoying music and live concerts, playing games, ham radio, and traveling. Ron was also incredibly handy; whether it was installing flooring, fixing plumbing, doing electrical work, or taking on a full home renovation, he could fix anything. A highlight of his retirement years was volunteering at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, as a Bike Valet alongside his son, Michael.

Above all, Ron's greatest joy was in caring for his family and his dogs. He was a true caretaker at heart, always placing everyone above himself.

He is survived by his wife, Ragan E. Montoya; his children, Michael J. Montoya and Kennedy W. Montoya; and his cherished dogs. He also leaves behind his brothers, Norbert R. Montoya (and his wife, Carol) and Richard A. Montoya (and his wife, Carmen); his sisters, Andrea H. Rael (and her husband, Joseph) and Marla M. Carmody (and her husband, Robert); and many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert H. Montoya and Theresa Montoya.

His warmth, humor, wisdom, and selfless spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

One of Ron's favorite quotes, and truly how he lived his life: "You can't give your life more time. So, give the time you have more life. Don't just exist, but live."

Services will be announced at a later date.
