Ronald Lee Flury, 87, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

Ron attended Lower Camden County Regional High School in Lindenwold, NJ. He graduated in 1957 having earned 9 varsity letters (at that time a school record), three each in football, basketball and baseball. Following high school he attended Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia, PA where he received an associate degree in Mechanical Technology in March 1959. Ron continued his education in 1961 earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from New Mexico State University (GO AGGIES!!) in 1964, and a Master of Science degree, Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1966. He was a member of several professional societies including ASM (American Society of Metals), ASME, and Honor Society Pi Tau Sigma and Sigma Tau. In Ron's 41-year professional career included employment by Sandia National Laboratory, 5 years; Westinghouse Electric Corporation, 15 years; and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), 21 years. While at Los Alamos, Ron served in both technical staff and management positions in the Engineering and Science Applications Division, Weapon Response Group. Ron's technical talents were devoted to ensuring the safety and reliability of today's nuclear weapon systems when exposed to severe abnormal crash and fire insults. After retiring from LANL in 2002, Ron continued to support weapon safety activities on a part-time basis as a Senior Consultant, ARES Corporation, Albuquerque, NM.

In retirement, he and Arlene enjoyed their time together hiking, camping, traveling and spending time with family and friends. In 2005 Ron began biking and has participated in several 24-hour mountain bike races and many road bike tours, completing his first century riding event when he was 72 years old. He continued to ride his bike into his 80's until age intervened and took it from him. When he arrives in heaven, he is hoping that God will have reserved good mountain and road bikes for him. Ron served his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as an active member, teacher, and deacon at Eastern Hills Baptist Church. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him deeply.

Ronald is survived by his sweetheart and loving wife of 65 years, Arlene Flury; daughters Dana Flury; daughter Lynise Paulich and husband Dennis Paulich; son Gavin Flury and wife Melissa; sister-in-law Kathy McDermott; grandchildren Taylor Packer; Logan Packer and wife Cassandra; Alyssa Rosado and husband Travis; Sheridan Parsons and husband JD; and great-grandchildren Nathan Joplin; Giselle Packer and Luke Packer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Muriel Flury.

A memorial service will be held at Eastern Hills Baptist Church, 3100 Morris Avenue, NE, on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 3:00 p.m.
