It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rodolfo "Harold" Lovato on June 6, 2026, at the age of 78. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.
Harold was born on October 29, 1947, in El Duende, New Mexico. He dedicated himself to a lengthy career in academics, becoming an alumnus of the University of New Mexico, where he earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees and went on to achieve a PhD of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology at the University of Michigan. He devoted many years supporting and guiding patients through his work as a psychologist.
Later in life, Harold embraced a new dream. After obtaining his general contractor's license, he built as well as remodeled homes, managed commercial projects, and found great fulfillment in creating places where people could live, work, and make memories. He continued doing this work he loved well into his retirement years.
Outside of his career, Harold found happiness in life's simpler pleasures. He had a lifelong love of horses and rode from a young age. He took great joy in sharing that passion with family and friends. He was also a devoted fan of Western movies, appreciating their stories of resilience and adventure. He spent many years enjoying physical fitness activities such as swimming, running in races, and lifting weights.
Harold's faith in God and his Savior Jesus Christ was very important to him and he made it a priority to share his faith with his children, ensuring they knew the importance of a relationship with God from a very young age.
More than his accomplishments, Harold's life was a testament to lifelong learning, determination, and following one's passions. He leaves behind a legacy of accomplishments, generosity, and countless memories shared with family and friends. His wisdom and kindness touched many lives and though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the love he gave will remain with his family and friends forever.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Lucy Lovato; brothers Dennis, David, Joey and Tony Lovato; sister, Cordelia; and son-in-law Johnny Gomez. He is survived by his daughters, Tamara Gomez; Carisma Lovato; Consuelo Lovato; son, Jarod Lovato; grandson Joshua Gomez; granddaughter, Kaela Mata (Jacob Mata); great-grandson Jacob-Johnny Mata; great-granddaughters, Jade and Janae Mata; sister Theresa Blair, as well as multiple nephews and nieces, and extended family.
Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW, in Albuquerque, on Friday, July 10th. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. with Rosary at 10:30 a.m., and Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at San Clemente Cemetery, 137 Chavez Ln, Los Lunas, at 4:00 p.m. Pallbearers: Jarod Lovato, Joshua Gomez, Joseph Hererra, Darrell Blair, Jesus Avila, and Richard Rodriguez.
