Robert Lee Fountain

Our beloved father, Bob, took his final bow on August 2, 2026. Born in Nebraska, he carried that stubborn Midwestern work ethic into a distinguished 20+year career in the U.S. Air Force. His military service took the family on a grand adventure, living and traveling all over Europe from the late 1960s to the mid-1970s before we finally settled down in Albuquerque. He spent his long retirement in the Duke City dedicated to our mom, green chili, sunshine, and a lifelong love for the Dallas Cowboys.

Spending decades around roaring jet engines meant that Bob spent his later years notoriously hard of hearing and the tv volume was always on full blast. We like to think he wasn't actually losing his hearing; he was just selectively tuning us out.

He has finally reunited with his beautiful wife, Monica, and his beloved son, Bill, who both preceded him in death. Monica traded her sunny home of Chile decades ago to share the adventure of military life with her Nebraska boy, and we are certain her first words to him when he entered the gates of heaven were, "Fountain, took you long enough" while Bill just smiled and fired up the grill.

He leaves behind his loving daughters, Jessica Fountain Hernandez (husband Carlos) and Jackie Rains (husband David). His legacy lives on through his grandsons, Derek, Tyler, and Max (wife Aliyah); granddaughter, Brooke Escobedo (husband Dan Mickelsku); grandson, Dacota (wife Ashley) and Krista Whetstone. And his great-grandchildren, Elijah, Anthony, Donovan, Chase, Addison (aka George) Wednesday, and Tilley Mae. We will deeply miss his stories, his game-day cheers, and his absolute ornery streak.
