Obituary

Listen to Obituary

On April 28, 2026, St. Peter sat down along with Archangels Gabriel and Michael to go over the Holy Scrolls to see who would be called home. On this day Robert Edward Ashe was called home to be with his Mother, Grandparents, and family, including his brothers and sisters who he served with in the United States Army.

Bob was born in Philadelphia, PA on April 6th, 1970, to Robert and Anita Ashe. After his father retired from the United States Navy he moved to Loveland Colorado where he attended Garfield Elementary, Bill Reed Jr High, and in 1988 graduated from Loveland High School. Bob met his best friend and loving wife Cheri on the track field at Loveland High School. Bob always said, "to me it was really love at first sight."

After graduating from High School, he received a scholarship to continue to play football at Midland Lutheran College in Fremont Nebraska. Receiving a knee injury, he decided to give up the pads and move back to Colorado and attend Fort Lewis College in Durango Colorado, where he received his bachelor's degree in American History/Southwest studies. Knowing that he could never teach because he did not have the patience to deal with the drama of High School students, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1993.

After basic training, in May of 1994 Bob married his best friend and love of his life, Cheri, and they were devoted to each other for 32 years. Together they served in Mons Belgium, San Antonio Tx, Killeen Tx, and Washington DC. He served as a Medical Laboratory Technologist and Combat Medic for the United States Army. Bob was very proud to serve in the Army, he was very proud to serve, support, and be part of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, units within U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command, 44th Medical Brigade, 1st Calvary Division, and both the 82nd and 101st Airborne medical groups. He loved teaching and training new troops as he would say, and would jump to any assignment or duty to help and aid the new batch of troops. In April of 2001 he left the Army and took a job with the National Institutes of Health where he was part of a published study on toxic shock.

Wanting to be closer to family, Bob and Cheri moved in 2003 to Albuquerque NM where he took a job with the Veterans Administration in the laboratory, then moved into IT. He was proud to be serving veterans and helped many with their disability cases and proudly retired in 2025.

He enjoyed learning and continued his higher education attending George Washington University, University of Maryland, and finally Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Bob is survived by his wife Cheri Ashe and his two sons Robert and Travis, both of whom he was very proud of.
