Rita Gurley

Surrounded by the family who cherished her, Rita Gurley departed peacefully in the early hours of September 26, 2026. Born to Hoskie and Vernie Nez on March 30, 1950, in Houck, Arizona, Rita embodied a divine tenderness through her boundless generosity and compassion. She served as a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, offering a quiet grace and gentle presence that provided solace to everyone she encountered. Through her warmth and love, she ensured that everyone in her life felt deeply valued.

Family was the center of Rita's world, and she found her greatest happiness in their company, dedicating herself to them with steadfast devotion. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Gurley; her children, Dorinda Ashley, Catherine Gurley, and Jeffery Gurley; her grandchildren, Jessica Yazzie and Shane Ashley; and her great-grandson. She also leaves behind a wide circle of beloved siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended relatives who will carry her memory and guidance in their hearts forever.

During her years in retail, Rita's natural ability to connect with others allowed her to form easy friendships and share joyful stories of the people she met. Eventually, she and Joseph established a family locksmith business in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. This venture was built upon a foundation of diligence, integrity, and the welcoming spirit that defined Rita's approach to life.

Possessing a multitude of gifts, Rita had a remarkable ability to provide exactly what others needed, whether it was a listening ear, a steadying voice, a counselor's wisdom, or a brightening smile. She was a reliable sanctuary for those in need, answering any call with unconditional love. Her guidance was soft, her presence was soothing, and her heart mirrored the divine kindness she extended to all.

Though she has returned home, Rita's spirit endures as a peaceful, soft light and a testament to the beauty she added to the world. She will be remembered always and missed profoundly, leaving a legacy woven into the lives she touched and the family she nurtured with selfless love. 

A memorial service to honor Rita will take place on October 30, 2026, at 11:00 AM at French Funerals & Cremations, located at 1275 Unser Blvd NE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124, with a reception to follow. All who loved her are invited to join her family in celebrating her life.
