Rita Aurora Gilbert

Rita Aurora Gilbert, 96, of Albuquerque, died on Saturday, June 6, 2015. She is survived by her children, Carolyn Olona and husband Emmanuel, Martin Gilbert and wife Rosemary, and Joyce Gilbert. Rita is also survived by her grandchildren, Eugene Olona, Mark Olona, Natasha Gilbert, Santana Torrez, Lisa Chavez-Selph and Adam Chavez; great-grandchildren, AJ and Ryan Olona, Avriel and Avienda Torrez and Adrianna Trujillo; as well as many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eloy Gilbert; and her grandson, Tim Olona Gilbert. Rita was a faithful member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church as well as Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She spent the majority of her career with the City of Albuquerque. Following her retirement, she enjoyed music, dancing, and spending time with her family. Friends and family are invited to a Rosary on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, June 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Place SE. Burial will be Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Campos, Raymond Sanchez, Marty Hernandez, Raymond Anaya, John Sanchez and Mike Roybal. Honorary Pallbearers are Ronald Salazar and Steve Tapia. The family of Mrs. Gilbert would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Brookdale Senior Living for their care and support.
