Richard Alan Madrid

July 2, 1963 — March 30, 2018

Richard Alan Madrid, born on July 2, 1963, passed away on March 30, 2018. Richard is survived by his wife of 32 years, Mary Madrid; sons, Joshua Madrid and wife Liz Irvine - Madrid, Nathan Madrid and girlfriend, Celina Gutierrez. He is preceded in death by his father, Richard Madrid and brother, Eric Madrid.  Richard was loved by all who knew him and was a beloved son, brother, husband, dad, uncle, great-uncle, and soon to be grandpa. Richard and his wife were married for 32 years and together for 39 years. They met freshman year at Manzano high school and were the love of each other's life from the day they met. Richard served his country for 34 years in the Air National Guard during which he volunteered for two deployments to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also served during the Bosnian War. During his time in the guard he served in several positions, primarily as a Weapons Specialist. He had attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant during his dedicated years of service. Richard was not only a dedicated serviceman but a dedicated father and husband. He was Scoutmaster for his sons Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops through all of their years of scouting. They joined their father on multiple backpacking and canoe trips during which he shared his love of the outdoors. Outside of their Scouting adventures Richard loved to spend time exploring the outdoors with his family. Countless fishing, hunting, boating, and cross country RV trips can be seen in pictures throughout the Madrid home. Richard took great pride is making his house a home for his wife and sons by transforming their home and yards throughout the years into a place that hosted many gatherings of family and friends. Whether it was a tree house, back patio, or fireplace renovation Richard was a regular handyman and could build or fix just about anything. Most importantly Richard was a servant of the Lord. Jesus Christ was present in all of Richard's actions and he rejoiced at any opportunity to share his testimony. Richard was an Elder at his church, Heights Cumberland Presbyterian, and volunteered in the video booth most Sundays. He was involved in countless Bible studies and was the spiritual leader in his home. One of his most cherished memories was chaperoning a mission trip, which his son Nathan attended, with his dear friend Justin Richter. Words cannot describe the impact Richard had on the world but his legacy will live on in the lives of the many people whom he inspired, mentored, served with, and loved.
