Mike Cady (Richard Michael Cady), 68, left this world peacefully, at home, in the early morning hours of July 1, 2025. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Joan and Richard Cady, and is survived by sisters Jennifer and Lelia, brother and sister in law, Chris and Nancy Cady, and many friends who will miss him.
Mike was born on March 9, 1957 in Washington DC. He grew up in Michigan and after graduation from Michigan State University his work took him to every corner of the USA. He developed a palate for regional specialties and eating locally. He loved cooking and eating equally, doing both with unmistakable Mike gusto.
Mike was funny, brilliantly hilarious, the kind of funny you'd think about hours and days and years later and laugh all over again. He was brainy too, especially on history, politics, war and peace, economics and world affairs, with a sharp command of facts, dates, and complicated concepts. He could discuss Hannibal and the elephants in great detail as easily as contemporary national or world events.
Michael loved sports, especially football but all sports, notably his alma mater the Michigan State University Spartans. He read voraciously all his life, as soon as he could pick up a book. He consumed nonfiction and fiction alike, and carried throughout life the love of books and libraries learned from our parents as a small child.
Music was important to Mike and his favorite band was The Raisins, with whom he became friends. To The Raisins and The Raisin-adjacent, our family expresses deep appreciation for the lasting joy you brought to his life.
Mike was the eldest of four siblings who love him beyond measure.
