Rhonda J. Thompson

November 4, 1954 — December 30, 2024

Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Rhonda J. Thompson, gained her Heavenly wings and went to her eternal home on December 30, 2024.

Rhonda was born on November 4,1954 at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California to Russell “Gene” E. Frye and Gwyneth “Gwen” O. Frye. She lived her childhood as an Air Force Brat transferring from base to base. Some of her fondest memories were made when the family was stationed in both Mississippi and Spain. Eventually, they all settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she graduated from Eldorado High School in 1972.

In May of 1978, she met William “Mike” Thompson at the famous Caravan Nightclub and on September 29, 1979, they married. The newlywed couple enjoyed bowling, playing softball and volleyball together, watching wrestling, spending time dancing the night away to country music at the Caravan, and enjoying time with their family and friends. Rhonda spent many years professionally training and showing dogs, which she had a passion for, especially Dachshunds, Golden Retrievers, Poodles, and Weimaraner’s. There was a special place in her heart for all animals and she always wanted every one of them to go home with her. Rhonda had a keen sense of humor, could strike up a conversation with total strangers, and knew just about everyone in the Albuquerque metro area.

Rhonda had several occupations throughout her professional life, and she enjoyed working for many different companies. Her favorite employers were Furr’s Grocery, Security Federal Savings & Loan, Quiktrak, and the Metropolitan Courthouse. She retired from assisting many judges and the people of New Mexico at Metro Court in July 2021. Rhonda was very successful in her many endeavors; however, her proudest accomplishment was being a Mother and Grandmother.

Anxiously waiting to greet Rhonda are her beloved parents, her granddaughter Myla Jalene, and many others. Left to mourn the enormous loss of Rhonda are Mike Thompson; her daughters Renee Thompson and Rachel (Victor) Herrera; her grandchildren Landon Stewart, Leonel (Courtney) Zapata and Aiyanna Herrera; and her great-grandchildren Christopher Zapata and Abigail Zapata. She also leaves behind many cherished family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
