Reverend Franklin Frederick (Fred) Johnson

The Reverend Franklin Frederick “Fred” Johnson Sr., son of Albuquerque Police Deputy Chief M. Fred Johnson and Vera Juanita (Carpenter) Johnson born Friday, April 17, 1942. Fred peacefully passed away in his home Friday, December 4, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Evelyn (Hampton) Johnson; sisters, Beverly Lurean McDargh, and Pearl Marie Wheelis; sons, Franklin Frederick Johnson Jr., Nathan Lee Roy Johnson, and Timothy Erwin Johnson; and daughters, Evelyn Juanita (Johnson) Tucker, Anna Joyce Johnson, and Sarah Aletha Johnson. Fred and Joyce have 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by parents, Fred and Juanita Johnson; sister Martha Lynette Johnson; and son, Geral E. Johnson. Fred was born in Albuquerque, attended Albuquerque High School, and was actively involved with Youth for Christ until entering the U.S Coast Guard. He served both active and reserve from Friday, January 1, 1960 until 1968. Following his Coast Guard service, he went on to attend Southwestern Assembly of God College where he met and married Joyce Evelyn Hampton on Saturday, October 17, 1964. He became a licensed Assemblies of God minister and was greatly involved with the Royal Rangers boy’s ministry providing training and leadership through almost 50 years of service. He was an active member of the Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship an advanced auxiliary of Royal Rangers. He retired from Sears after 39 years of service as a facilities maintenance engineer. After retiring he became involved with the local Seniors group where he taught leatherworking and leathercraft which were skills he developed and honed since Jr. High.
