Born March 21, 1932 in Dulce, New Mexico to Jose Eugenio Gomez and Lena Duran Gomez. Rafaelita beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister entered eternal life peacefully Monday, May 22, 2017 due to a long illness. She survived by Preciliano (Pres) Garcia her husband of 65 years and her main caretaker until the end of her life. She is also survived by her daughter, Sheila Weaver and husband, Cliff from Albuquerque , NM; son, Gary Garcia and wife, Jill of Artesia, NM; daughter, Debbie Turcotte and husband, Scott of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Stephanie Heath and husband, Andy from Longmont , CO, Amanda Jury and husband Jim, from Albuquerque, NM, Dr. Robert Weaver from Tyler, TX, Scottie Jo Turcotte from Albuquerque, NM, Sam Turcotte from Albuquerque, NM, Jake Turcotte from Albuquerque, NM; great-grandchildren, Zach Weaver from Albuquerque, NM, Madison and Logan Jury from Albuquerque, NM, Drew and Dylan Heath from Longmont, Co, and Brody Turcotte from Albuquerque, NM. She is also survived by Manuel Gomez and wife, Bernie from Dulce, NM, Lorrine Lucero from Sparks, NV, Mauricio Gomez from Del Rey, Florida, Msgr. Leo Gomez from Albuquerque, NM, Jose Eugenio Gomez III from Dulce, NM; sister-in-law, RoseAnn Gomez from Sacramento , CA; in-laws, Ralph and Teodora Garcia and family; Lucy Props and family; Mary and Gilbert Lucero and family; Loyola Palmer and family; Amos Garcia and family; Elma Garcia and family. She is survived by her special niece, Leola Luchetti and her husband, Mark; and many caring nephews, nieces and cousins who loved her dearly. Rafaelita was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Deborah Kathleen; sister, Lucille Salazar; and brother, Isaac Gomez. Rafaelita was a loving stay at home mother. She was temporarily employed as secretary for the Business Department at Highlands University and for the Jicarilla Police Department. She was employed at SunWest National Bank as a customer service representative for over 10 years. After her retirement, she loved to travel. Her travels took her to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico and many US cities. She also enjoyed her cruises to Panama, Alaska and the Caribbean. Rafaelita truly loved spending time with all of her family and friends. She also enjoyed going to the casino and sleeping in late. Rafaelita will be greatly missed by those who loved and cared for her. The family deeply appreciates and thanks, Dr. Jeffrey Mazer, Dr. Geoffrey Kunz, Laura McDermott CNP, Dr. Scott Stoerner, Dr. Valerian Gieri, and the loving and compassionate staff at Kindred Hospice. Friends may visit one hour prior to the Rosary being recited Wednesday, May 31, 2017, 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated Thursday, June 1, 2017, 9:00 a.m. at The Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Road NE, by Msgr. Leo Gomez, Deacon Edward Sena and Deacon Joe Santana. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery will follow the Mass. Pallbearers are Rob, Sam, Jake, Zach, Franco Candelaria and Jack Props. Honorary Pallbearers are Effie O’Brien, Consuelo Shupla, Louisa Lotrich, Elizabeth Montano, Joyce Archuleta, Pressi Salido, and Jerrica Salido. Luncheon is to follow interment. Memorial contributions in honor of Rafaelita, can be made to The Shrine Pantry at St. Bernadette.
