Rae Marie Hastings, age 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1966, died Friday, June 5, 2015. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Hastings of Albuquerque; Marsha Cowan and husband, Izzy of Las Cruces, NM and Jennifer Weakland and husband, Jeremy of Albuquerque; two grandchildren Ashley Lagos and husband, Rob Davis of Phoenix, AZ and Clinton Cole Cowan of Washington D.C.; two great-grandchildren, Ana and Xavier Lagos; and the Robert Hawkins family of New York. Rae was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Bob Hastings; and her brother, Robert Hawkins. She was born in 1927 in Gower, MO to Floyd and Grace Hawkins and graduated from Gower High School in 1945. Rae then attended and graduated from the University of Missouri with her Degree in Home Economics. It was while she was a Home Demonstration Agent in Jetmore, Kansas that she met Bob Hastings and they were married on December 26, 1950. Bob's career as an insurance agent took them to Denver, CO, Albuquerque, NM and St. Louis, MO before returning to Albuquerque in 1966. Rae worked as a Real Estate Broker for Muchmore Realty and then Manuel Lujan Agency from 1969 to 1983. She loved her vegetable and flower gardens, and enjoyed raising several generations of turtles in her backyard. The love of her life was her family, and she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rae Marie's name to the Animal Humane Society of NM, www.animalhumanenm.org and the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org .
