Pete J. Romero, 85, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Friday March 20, 2026. Pete was born on October 25, 1940, to Cipriano and Eutimia Romero in Jaconita, NM.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Ramoncita and Loyola Romero, Dianna Gonzales, Belinda Lopez, and brother Horacio Romero; his in-laws Ersilia Romero and Billy James and his grandson Baby Gary. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years Margaret; sons Richard (Marcia), and Gary (Melissa). Grandchildren; Jenna, Justin, Manuela and Isabella; siblings Robert Romero (Nancy), Joe Romero (Betty), Christina Salazar (Lonnie); in-laws Tony Gonzales, Steve Lopez, Ramona James, and Tony Bargas (Dianna); as well as many nieces, nephews and their families and many cousins and friends.
Pete attended St. Michael's College for a short time and then decided to go to Barber School. He then joined the United States Airforce where he chose the field of communications and was assigned to Ramstein Airforce Base in Germany. When he returned to New Mexico, he began working as a barber in Albuquerque where he met Margaret. They had a whirlwind courtship and were married on June 25, 1966. Pete started his 33 year career at Western Electric (AT&T) and began traveling around the country. Richard and Gary were born in the next two years. Pete loved Margaret and their love grew stronger as they watched their boys grow and develop into wonderful young men. Even more fulfilling than his love for Margaret and their boys, was his love for all his grandchildren. He never missed a game, swim meet, dance recital and made it to every grandparent day in either Albuquerque, Houston or Phoenix.
Family was very important to Pete. He loved his brothers and sisters and shared a special bond with each of them. He also loved his nieces and nephews, they all had a special place in his heart. His term of endearment was giving each of them special nicknames and if they had a game or an event, he was sure to be there cheering them on.
Pete will be missed by many people who were involved with him throughout his life. He touched so many people just by his presence and by taking time to connect with them individually in a special and unique way.
