Pedro C. Lucero passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, at the family home. He lost the love of his life, Louisa Lucero just 5 weeks before his passing. Pedro was born on August 26, 1933, in Albuquerque, NM to Carmen and Clara Lucero. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Louisa; his parents, Carmen and Clara Lucero; and his sister, Lillian Lucero.
He is survived by his children, Ted Lucero and wife, Kathy and Clara Lopez and husband, Dionicio; and five grandchildren, Amaris Lucero, Natalia Kerness (husband-Jared), Dionicio Lopez (wife-Danielle), Atanacio Lopez, and Matthew Lucero (partner-Maya Densmore). Pedro has five great-grandchildren, Elias Kerness, Jaylee Lopez, Catalina Kerness, Dionicio Lopez and Cienna Kerness. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews and his life-long friend, Jesus Mercardo, who was like a brother to him.
Pedro was a descendant of the Griego's of Los Griegos of Albuquerque and was born and lived in Griegos his entire life. He worked at Los Poblanos Farm in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque alongside his father and life-long friend Jesus Mercardo. He also worked for Forest Products and retired from American Gypsum after 30+ years of service. After he retired you would find him out working in his yard, gardening, walking his precious dog, Tiny, wearing his suspenders and his hat. He was a huge fan of WWE Wrestling and would go to live events as well as watching them on TV. Both Louisa and Pedro would recite the rosary every day. Pedro will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A Rosary will be held Thursday, January 29, 2026, 6:30 p.m., at FRENCH - University. The Funeral Mass will be held Friday, January 30, 2026, 12:30 p.m., at St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church, 3424 4th Street NW. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Amaris Lucero, Natalia Kerness, D.J. Lopez, A.J. Lopez, Matthew Lucero, and Jared Kerness. Honorary pallbearers will be Elias Kerness, Jaylee Lopez, Catalina Kerness, Dionicio Lopez and Cienna Kerness, and George Garcia. A reception will follow at St. Therese Catholic Church Hall/Gym. All are welcome to attend.
