Pauline A. Jones passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, sitting in her backyard, in the beautiful New Mexico sunshine with her dog, Max. She is survived by her children: Carol Adkins and her husband, Doug; Sharon Jones; and Larry Jones and his wife, Anne. Pauline has six grandchildren, of whom she was so proud: Emily and Jeremy Adkins, Sarah and Mark Blair, and Andrew and Rachel Jones. Pauline has a brother, Hal Lunka, and his wife Glee, along with numerous cousins and friends who were very important to her.
Pauline was born in Denver, CO in 1934. She met Orval Jones at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO and they married in 1954. In 1962, Pauline and Orval moved to Albuquerque, NM. While raising three children, Pauline went to school nights and days, completing her BA (1967), MA (1970), and PhD (1974) degrees in Education at the University of New Mexico. She worked for APS, running the media centers at Sandia, and later La Cueva, High Schools.
Pauline retired in 1990 and spent many years watching her grandchildren during their parents’ workweeks. She and Orval loved attending symphony orchestra concerts and the Santa Fe Opera, spending time at their cabin, and trailering with their miniature schnauzers. Following Orval’s passing, Pauline took pleasure in daily visits from her Albuquerque family and regular phone calls with loved ones across the country. Pauline was the hub of her family - the communication center for all family news. She celebrated her 90th birthday in May this year and was excited to have her extended family gathered together.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 22nd, 2:00 pm, at The Cathedral Church of St. John, 318 Silver SW, Albuquerque, NM. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra (Albuquerque Philharmonic Orchestra, P.O.
