Patricio P. "Popo" Trujillo, 89, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico, to his Mother Bernardita "Lonardita" and Father Patricio Trujillo, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother Daniel and his sisters Margarita and Patricia.
Popo was a proud graduate of Robertson High School. Following graduation, he began a lifelong career dedicated to serving others. The first half of his professional journey was spent in the medical and behavioral health fields, where he worked as a medical attendant and drug and alcohol counselor. His work included time with the New Mexico State Hospital, St. Vincent Hospital, BCMC (now known as UNMH), La Llave Drug Rehabilitation Program, and AT&SF. He later continued his career as a Postal Worker for the Department of Energy, where he remained committed to hard work and service.
One of Popo's greatest joys in life was helping others. He was deeply involved in the Albuquerque community, including leading and supporting numerous Alcoholics Anonymous programs. His passion for service and leadership even sparked conversations about entering local politics-an idea lovingly put to rest by Nana.
Popo shared a remarkable love story with Cecilia "Nana" Gabaldon Trujillo. The two met on a blind date in the early 1960s around Christmas time, arranged by Nana's sister. After their first meeting, it took Popo a few determined attempts before convincing Cecilia to give him another chance, finally securing a second date around Valentine's Day. From there, their connection quickly grew. Before long, Popo had entrusted Nana with the keys to his cars and his paychecks-a true sign of his devotion.
Just a year after they began dating, Popo proposed, and Cecilia said yes. They were married on Cinco de Mayo in 1962, beginning a partnership defined by love, commitment, and mutual support. Popo worked tirelessly to provide for the family, while Nana created a warm and loving home.
Together, they raised five children and built a life centered on family, faith, and adventure. They shared a love of travel, forming friendships and memories across the world. Their 65 years of marriage stand as a beautiful and lasting testament to love, dedication, and partnership. Their love is truly one for the ages.
Popo found joy in life's simple moments, especially through music. He had a special love for playing the harmonica, often filling the room with its sound and bringing smiles to those around him. Whether through his laughter, his stories, or his willingness to lend a helping hand, Popo left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His legacy of love, strength, and compassion will continue to live on through all who were fortunate enough to know him.
He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Popo was known and loved by so many - a testament to his kindness, generosity, and the genuine way he connected with others. He was a devoted husband, a steady presence, and the foundation of his family.
A Rosary for Patricio will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. followed by a Eulogy and Memorial service at FRENCH Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd NE - Albuquerque NM 87109.

A special thanks to Dr. Aiden Pancer and staff at Presbyterian Hospital and The Rehab Center of Albuquerque for their support and care for our dad.
In his final years, Popo lived comfortably with his daughter Angela and son-in-law James, who together provided loving, dedicated and attentive care. Popo was blessed to have Martin, Jerome, Patricia, Edwin and other close family support him in their own special way and surround him with love.
