Obed Lorenzo Sanchez

Obed was born in Wellington, Kansas 28 October 1951 to Isabel and Eva Sanchez. He spent the early years of his life in Kansas, Las Vegas, New Mexico and Security, Colorado. He was later to move back to Las Vegas to finish high school and graduate from Robertson High School. He then went on to attend an extension to New Mexico State University in Grants, New Mexico for a couple of years. During that time he was known to have had various nefarious adventures with his Uncle Sam Estrada … (enough said there)! In later years Obed served as a councilor for boys at Brush Ranch in Pecos, New Mexico. It was a calling for which he was so well suited and enjoyed very much as a mentor for troubled youth.
During his life, Obed worked in many positions as a school bus driver, carpenter, handyman and harvester of natural medical products from the countryside throughout New Mexico. He was know by all to be a “free spirit” always willing to lend a helping hand physically to anyone in need. In addition, Obed would gladly and without request, mead out psychological,
political or spiritual advice (of his own making) to anyone whose path he crossed. He had the kindest nature, willing heart and gentle soul!
The last 20 years of his live were spent in a relationship with his partner Sandra and her two children Vanessa and Manual. This time proved to be the
most structured and meaningful part of his life. During this period Obed was also to care for his aged mother Eva assuring her comfort, care and love during the senior years of her life.
Only months ago, his partner, Sandra was to lose her battle with illness passing gently under Obed’s watchful care as he himself battled his own cancer.
Obed’s presence will be deeply missed however, we are grateful to have known his love and gentle nature. Our God was again merciful and graceful in calling Obed home as he left us in a whisper, free of pain and anguish! Rest in peace our beloved brother, uncle, cousin, mentor and friend.
