Norman Corlis

d. June 9, 2019

Norman Corlis, 79, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday evening, June 9, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Born to Winston and Gladys, raised on an Iowa farm, it was recognized early he had a knack for electronics and fixing just about anything. He went to Tech school in Chicago earning 4+ grade point average. Norman came to Albuquerque after being recruited by Sandia Laboratories in the 60’s. He spent three decades with the Labs; he truly loved his job. He loved adventure: backpacking in the nearby national forest(s); traveling, and his favorite Hot Air Ballooning. He flew for many years privately and at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. He was a special man. With the grace and bearing of a man raised when manners and etiquette were instilled by parents. Those fortunate to meet and get to know him could tell you men like him are few and far between.

Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia in 2009. He is survived by his daughter, Deb Gay and husband, Tom of Albuquerque; his brother, Lauren and nephews, Jeff and wife, Inge from Iowa and Randy from Wisconsin; step-children, Kim Harrell, Todd Johnson and wife, Kory, Jessica Lager and husband, Scott, and JD Johnson; five grandkids; and his partner, Ginger, also of Albuquerque.
