Nora Pearl Dean Jones was born to Cornelious Sr. and Nora Lee Thompson on August 24, 1935 in Knox City, TX. She was the third child of seven children, which gave her two sisters and four brothers. They were all raised in the church. She attended school in a one-room building with classes 1st through 8th grade because black students were not allowed to attend high school. She then attended a beauty school and also married Freeman Dean, Sr. After 10 years, they separated and divorced four years later. Nora is the mother of six children. She raised them in Albuquerque, NM where she attended night school and worked as a nanny during the daytime. After she completed her high school education, she went on to nursing school through T.V.I. Nora worked for Presbyterian Hospital for 35 years and she became a homem owner, which made her proud. She also had a great pride that all her children graduated from high school, and some of them went to college. She loved that all of her children gave their life to Christ and were baptized. She felt very blessed to have her mother, Nora Lee, and her mother’s sister, Margaret, both help her in caring for and watching her children.
Nora enjoyed all sports activities and church activities her children participated in. She also was a fan of the Lady Lobos. Nora liked walking, singing in the choir, going to the gym, sewing and making quilts, and trying out different recipes and traveling to visit her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandchildren. It made her day to go shopping and find great deals, bargains and reduced prices. She kept up with all her loved ones’ birthdays. Nora also loved dressing up and having her hair, nails and clothes done just right. She never left home without her jewelry and her lipstick. After being divorced for 50 years, in 2011 she married Oscar Jones. Nora’s love for her family and God was unconditional. She belonged to the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Albuquerque. Nora’s family is thankful to God for her. She is the matriarch and is a priceless and precious pearl to her whole family.
