Nick Kapnison, Age 93, passed away in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by loved ones, on Wednesday, June 11th, 2025. The son of a dreamer, from the distant shores of Greece, Nick made every stranger feel like a friend, and every friend, like family. Walking through this life with an undeniable presence in his voice, a twinkle in his eyes, and stories that could warm a room. He always wore his best suit, not out of pride, but out of quiet honor and respect for those he shared his days with.
From the interiors of his beloved restaurants to the sidewalks of Albuquerque, he gave the world his presence - fully, freely, without compromise - Getting each soul with a smile and a "Good to see you, my friend." Raised in the heartbeat of Greek tradition, Nick truly embodied the fact that family isn't just important, it's everything. Upholding the sacred connection to a sturdy place where meals are shared, stories are passed down like heirlooms, Nick knew that love is best served loud, and with laughter. If you were fortunate enough to spend time with him at one of his restaurants, you didn't just see him at work, you saw him at home - pulling out a chair and welcoming you - to the extension of his own family's table, where everyone has a seat. Carrying forth that legacy in everything he did.
Much like the deep roots anchoring an old olive tree, Nick held generations together, honoring where he came from, while lifting others up to reach new heights. He was the kind of man who built things - not just businesses, but community. Not just a living, but a life rich in connection, and love. Not a single person only "met" Nick - you felt him. You remembered him. A force of nature - not in the way a storm rages, or fire consumes, but in how he moved through this world with an undeniable presence, pride, and unshakable purpose. A force not just remembered - but felt for generations to come. Nick didn't just "live" his life given - he poured out - full of grit, heart, and grace. He will be deeply missed, and eternally cherished by so many who's lives he touched.
Carrying his legacy forward, Nick Kapnison is survived by his two daughters, Nicole and Annamarie Kapnison. His grandchildren, Nick B, Nicholas K, and Vivian K. His daughter in-law, Alice, and his son in-law, Greg, along with many, many others who he deeply cherished - just as they did him. He was welcomed home by his son, Paul Kapnison - His Grandson, Joe Buck, and his parents - Dorothy and Paul Kapnison.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 - St. George Greek Orthodox at 11:00am with a graveside to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
