Nelson Pacheco died peacefully at home on Monday, August 3, 2020. His wife Vickie and sons, Joseph and Carlos were at his side.
More than 65 years ago, a very young Nelson Pacheco made the move to Albuquerque away from his family in Penasco, NM. Maybe it was the allure of the big city and its opportunities, or more likely it was the allure of a certain young woman named Vickie that brought him to Albuquerque. Vickie became the love of his life, his wife of 65 years, and mother of his six children, Jeannette, Hazel, Nelson Jr., Sophia, Joseph, and Carlos.
Nelson was grandfather to nineteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Born October 22, 1930, Nelson was one of ten surviving children. He was a Korean War Army veteran, a carpenter, a craftsman, and a construction superintendent for many of Albuquerque’s prominent buildings. Yet in spite of his own notable achievements, he never forgot his roots and often boasted about the accomplishments of his father Ismael and Grandfather Moises. In fairness, he gave equal billing to his mother Refugio’s culinary delights and his grandmother Sofia’s wise sayings.
As an active member and Elder of Legacy Church, Nelson worked in many ministries, and through his exuberant faith he touched many lives over the years.
He was also a member of SNMDMP2 and Carpenters Union Local 1319.
A celebration of Nelson’s life will be held Thursday, August 13, 2020, 10:30 a.m. at Legacy Church. Due to current health restrictions, attendance is limited to immediate family members and their spouses; however, the service will be live streamed and available for viewing by copying and pasting the following link into your browser https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100054318844476 approximately at 10:00 a.m.
He will be laid to rest at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Due to current protocols, attendance will be further limited.
The family extends its appreciation for the outpouring of love and support.
