Nancy Lou
Stewart
Aug 4, 1940 — May 18, 2026
Born in Long Beach, California. Nancy moved to Vashon Island Washington with her parents Evelyn and Lynn "Tex" Robinson at the age of three. She spoke of the wonders of being raised on a small island and often joked that she could swim before she could walk and that her first car was a rowboat. Her love of football came from watching her daddy coach football at Vashon High School, her talents as a cook come from her mom (including her much requested potato salad recipe and Thanksgiving dressing).
After high school, life took her to the big city of Seattle where she attended The University of Washington for two years. Nancy and her former husband Bob married and raised their two kids in Bellevue, WA. Her passion for helping others and volunteering began during this time; from the Children's Orthopedic Hospital to the Seattle Seahawks Training Camp. Nancy was known for her hard work, humor, helpfulness and her custom baby quilts.
Nancy started the next chapter in her life when she moved to New Mexico ...here she fell in love with the beautiful skies, the people and the joy of an above ground pool in the heat of a south-west summer. She found her calling in helping people as a unit clerk for Turquoise Lodge and eventually retired from the State of New Mexico. And retire well she did: travels around the country and Europe. Weekly card games with the girls and finding the love of God at Christ United Methodist Church. Of course, she continued with her volunteering - on the board at church, APD Woman Against Crime, Presbyterian Hospital and Room Grandma at Inez Elementary School to name just a few. She missed her ocean and the Pacific Northwest dearly but had a wonderful final chapter as a New Mexican.
In 2003 she took on her favorite role: Grandma ! Her beloved nickname "Maca" was bestowed upon her by her oldest grandson. The true joy in her life was her grandkids and the greatest gift she gave them was herself ...and snacks. We are forever grateful for Maca being part of the village that raised Asa, Cora, Neasa and Magnus (Maca traveled well to Alaska to babysit) and helping them become the amazing young people that they are.
In addition to her grandkids, Nancy is survived by her son Scott Stewart of Anchorage AK., daughter Lisa Gunderson and Son-In-law Bruce Gunderson of Albuquerque NM., as well as her niece and nephews in Washington. She was proceeded in death by her parents, younger brother Gordon Robinson and sister-in-law Connie. Nancy will be missed by many friends and family members. . We are all a little lost, 85 years was just not enough time with her. And yes, we will see you again Mom.
Memorial services and Celebration of life for Nancy Stewart will be held Monday June 22nd at 2:00 PM at Christ United Methodist Church located at 6200 Gibson Blvd SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
