Nancy passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at the age, of 93. Born in Milford, MA, in November of 1932, she was the daughter of G. Theodore and Evelyn Kaufman.
After graduation from Darien High School, she entered Pembroke College/Brown University. She graduated from Brown in 1954.
She met her beloved husband, Charlie/Red, when they were students at Brown. They were married in 1956. Nancy worked at the New York Times until the birth of their daughter, Lynn, of Albuquerque, in 1959. Her son, Peter of Cambridge, MD, was born in 1961. Her son, Eric, of Albuquerque, was born in Hartford, CT, in 1964.
The family lived in Potomac, MD, until 2003. After several trips to Albuquerque to visit Eric's family, Charlie and Nancy decided to move permanently to Albuquerque so that they could take part in the lives of their two much loved grandsons, Marcus and Thomas.
Nancy took great joy in traveling the world with Charlie and sometimes their dear friends. She also regularly ventured on great journeys with her sister.
Nancy was an avid reader, accomplished knitter and quilter, and expert American Indian jewelry collector and dealer. She enjoyed competitive Bridge and her bridge friends/groups. In her later years, she continued genealogy work her father had begun, establishing fascinating family links in America well before the American Revolution and centuries back into Europe.
Throughout the years, Nancy and Charlie enjoyed their mutual association with Brown University. In 2019, they attended the 65th reunion of their class of 1954. They were both honored to serve as Marshals at the 2019 Brown commencement.
Nancy attended Sandia Presbyterian Church, where she was a member since coming to Albuquerque. Previously she was very active at Geneva Presbyterian church in Potomac, MD.
Nancy is survived by her children, daughter-in-law; two grandchildren; sister Ellanie Hershberger (Dr. Thomas) of Pittsburgh, PA; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nephews, cousins and many close friends.
Wise, personable, and witty, Nancy was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
A Memorial Service and reception will be held Thursday, October 29, 2026, 10:00 a.m., at Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo Del Norte NE, Albuquerque, NM 87122. The interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
