Myrna Jean (Claggett) Finke, 89 years of age, passed away in Albuquerque, NM on December 28, 2025. She is survived by three of her four children, Aaron Bauman, Denise Baechtel, and Ginger Iglesias in addition to her two granddaughters, Vanessa Baechtel and Una Leonard.
Myrna was a talented artist and her work as a Cartographer was appreciated by countless people in her photographs, drawings, pamphlets, and maps for many wilderness areas in New Mexico and Colorado. Her love of the outdoors was profound. She was also an advocate for animals and volunteered for the Wild Horse Adoption Program and various animal shelters - she loved the kitties.
Myrna was a notable advocate for the women's and children's rights movements beginning in the 1970's, earning many recognitions and awards during her life working to help people. Her extensive documentation of events, achievements, and pictures were donated to the UNM Women's Studies Program.
We would like to extend a special thanks to the Alzheimer's Association in Albuquerque for their wonderful and informative classes on caregiving and to Mayberry Senior Care for their lovely programs, day services, and staff. A heartfelt thanks to the very special caregivers and hospice staff who helped us care for Myrna in the final stages of her life. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mayberry Senior Services, 5528 Eubank Blvd NE Suite 1, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
Sleep Sweet
Sleep sweet within this quiet room
O thou, whoe'er thou art
And let no mournful yesterdays
Disturb thy peaceful heart
Nor let tomorrow mar thy rest
With dreams of coming ill
Thy Maker is thy changeless friend,
His love surrounds thee still
Forget thyself and all the world
Put out each garish light
The stars are shining overhead
Sleep sweet mama! Good night. Good night.
