Muriel Dorothy Ross

Muriel Dorothy Ross, age 98, passed away on Monday August 11, 2025, at Morning Star Assisted Living in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Muriel was born in Grand Rapids, MI where she attended Mount Mercy Academy and Aquinas College. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. Muriel had a distinguished career as a professor and scientist, teaching neuroanatomy at the University of Michigan, founding the Biocomputation Center at NASA Ames Research Center, and developing methods for telemedicine at the University of New Mexico. She loved to travel and visited all seven continents.

Muriel is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Mary (Ross) and Gary Small, Carol Ross-Baumann and Robert Baumann, Patricia (Ross) Larry Cingel, and Sharon (Ross) and Donald DeLand; seven grandchildren, Amanda, Adam, and Sara Small, Matthew and Kurt Baumann, Emily Cingel and Rebecca DeLand and 3 great-grandchildren. Muriel's husband, Bernard; brother, Donald; and parents, Theophilus and Marie Karp, preceded her in death. Muriel will be missed by those who knew her, including her caregivers over her last few months.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Westside Chapel. 

A funeral mass will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 12500 Carmel Ave - Albuquerque on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., followed by Entombment at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery on Wyoming Blvd.
