A gentle man, whose spirit transcends words, Morton Otto Radden, 99, died surrounded by loved ones on April 11, 2026.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1926, to Arnold and Hannah Radden, Morty grew up in an immigrant Jewish world full of neighborhood friendship and camaraderie. On his 18th birthday, he enlisted in the Army and spent the waning years of the War as a letter carrier—delivering news and connection to his fellow enlisted men.

Upon returning to New York, Morty met the love of his life, Eleanor Radden (née Tint). They were married in 1948 and had two children, Michelle and David. For 25 years, he ran Morty’s Service Station in Sunset Park, and, with his family by his side, remained an avid lover of road-trips and adventure throughout life.

Following a second retirement, Morty and Eleanor moved to Florida in 1988, where they found joys and companionship among new and old friends alike. Spry, fit, and clever, Morty embraced retirement on the tennis and racquetball courts, where his feisty Brooklyn upbringing could still be seen.

Morty was preceded in death by Eleanor, and is survived by his children, Michelle Radden-Vogler and David Radden; his grandchildren, Jesse, Emily, Michael, and Danny; and his great-grandchildren, Ellie, Levi, Lucia, and Sasha.

A vital, curious soul, connected and open to the world and people who surrounded him, Morty was the sharpest wit in the room until the end of his life.

A memorial service will be held at Star of David Cemetery in North Lauderdale, Florida on April 17th at 11:45 AM.
