Mirium H. Arnold, 89, passed from this earth on March 25, 2016. Mirium was a woman of grit and determination, having been one of the first women allowed to wear pants at the Quaker Oats plant, in St. Joseph, MO, where she led a cake and pancake mix testing lab. Throughout much of her life, Mirium was a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. After the plane crash in Newburgh, NY that took the life of Bob, her husband, Mirium and her three children moved to New Mexico. For many years Mirium served as the Electrical Engineering Dept., at UNM, secretary, working closely with Professor Peter Dorato. Upon retirement from the University, Mirium and her brother Stephen created and ran My Aunties Dolls, specializing in soft dolls with exquisitely embroidered faces. Mirium was a member of Soroptimist International, Professional Business Women of New Mexico and the Sandia Doll Club.
Born May 2, 1926 in St. Joseph, MO, Mirium was preceded in death by Foster Hotchkiss (father), Capt. Robert F. Arnold, USAF (husband), Nelrose D. Scott (mother), James "Buck" Scott (step-father), Richard A. Arnold (son) and Stephen S. Hotchkiss (brother). Mirium is survived by her cousin Charlotte McDermott (91) Grass Valley, CA, daughters Janice E. Arnold-Jones (John L. Jones) of Albuquerque and Karen A. Morse (Neil James Morse) of Green Valley, AZ, nephew Stephen S. Hotchkiss, Springfield, MO, niece Sarah Bantz and daughters Jessica and Nicole, Des Moines, IA, and her grandchildren Robert B. Jones and Mary E. Jones both of Albuquerque.
Our heartfelt thanks to so many friends, and the staff at Las Colinas, Golden Years, and Presbyterian Hospice as we made this journey with Mom.
Memorial services will take place a later date. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
