Michele Becknell, 78, a resident of New Mexico for 54 years, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 7, 2025. Michele was a force of nature and truly one of a kind. Born in New York and raised by a single mother in Brooklyn, Michele was an unforgettable woman at a young age. After tragically losing her family as a young woman, she started her career in the stock market and financial advising. Despite the social climate and gender norms being against her, Michele refused to be told what she was capable of and eventually became VP of Wells Fargo advising. Michele was headstrong and determined to get what she wanted out of life. Three heart surgeries didn't stop Michele from competing in dog agility, helping with horse adoption in the east mountains, volunteering at the ABQ bio park for ten years, visiting over 15 countries and finally assisting with rhino conservation in Africa at age 76. Her life long goal was to photograph animals in Africa. She never lost her spunk and always wanted to fight for her health. Her love and determination to her family and those around her is something that will echo throughout generations. We love you so much Madre and we are happy you're at peace now.
Michele is survived by her husband of 50 years, Wesley Becknell and son Dr. Jared Becknell, PhD. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lenora Casadona, brother Donald Casadona, and cousin Diane Procopio.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 1:00 pm at FRENCH-Wyoming.
